The Economic Performance of Reunited Families in Switzerland, 2013–2018

Abstract Family migration has gained prominence as one of the main reasons for international mobility in both Switzerland and rest western European countries. However, research aimed at evaluating economic performance reunited families been constrained by unavailability individual income and/or household composition data. The joint use population registers information about individuals’ social security contributions allowed us to overcome this limitation. Using transition matrices logistic models, we assess level evaluate differences based on region birth person initiating process, well financial situation these 5 years after reunion. results show a process convergence between three groups under analysis despite initial families, that most achieve satisfactory living conditions. They also highlight hybrid nature Swiss-headed which initially resemble those headed non-EU/EFTA person, terms their members make income, but they contribute similarly EU/EFTA families.
